Interior Design with Julia Johanna Forsman

The foundation of my interior knowledge came from interior architecture school and practise in Italy. That was followed with graduation in Visual Communication in my native country Sweden.

Now at 27 years old I have just relocated back to Italy, Rome.

Before heading off I worked as a designer for exhibitions and fairs for a Stockholm based company. Now I’m taking on the Roman design field and if you will you can enjoy the best bits hear. Interior Design is important. A grand part of our well being and existence. If we are aware of how to plan and shape the home, the workplace or any other living area I’m sure it would add a lot to the days and nights. The colours and forms in my life gives me good energy, and with that I knew creative interiors were it for me.

Interior is where the heart is

To kick of this new series of articles on Interior Design, I first wanted to scrabble down some of my own basic Interior beliefs. And hopefully you will tag along for this autumn 2009 when design is the topic.

It’s al about creating environments that will serve our needs. If it’s a bedroom you might want to fell at ease, while if it’s a living room area you generally want it to hold al of your hobbies and interests in an appealing way. One of the most difficult tasks for an interior designer I think is to design a home environment. It sounds easy, but what says home to me may not be the place where you want to lay your hat at. So I might be shooting myself in the foot by writing this, but the best designer for your home is you.

Now you might be glancing at your empty walls and misplaced furniture’s giving off a sigh. No need to despair since I’m going to guide you throw the greatest errors, the dos and the don’t’s under your roof. And at the same time I will present here the newest influences and solutions for interesting and comfortable surroundings.

In general it’s important that you change sceneries to generate ideas and find inspiration. Since everything is relative I find it crucial to give my own eyes surprises and new horizons to view, in order to discover other ways of dealing with shape and colour. I’m convinced that every object has a perfect spot in which it becomes al that it can be. The thrill you get when finding that unique place for that lamp, sofa or piece of art is what feeds interior designers. Suddenly things that didn’t appeal to you start to shine in a new light. So never say never about your “ugly” stuff, they are just misplaced. Until next time, stir up and decorate your day!
