Stina Lundberg Fashion Stylist Gives You Some Tips On, What to Wear On New Year’s Eve

  • Christmas and New Year are approaching. With these traditions comes for most people holidays and family dinners and parties. For those of you who like dressing up and never skip an occasion, this one is for you.

This current trend is actually underwear being worn in a new way, now they are meant to be seen! I guess that you have seen the huge amount of tops in corset-style this season, with ribbons to tie or buckle in metal in the back.

(I’ve seen many people wearing them with pants as a nice contrast, not to make it too girly…) Well that has already been seen, and now this trend is taking it a little bit further, letting the focus on underwear completely show with either transparent fabric, laces, or other satin or silk inspired materials.

The most interesting detail accorinding to my personal taste, that goes well with this theme is the see-through fabric, to be seen mostly on tops dresses and blouses. This goes for all kind of sheer and transparent material, which directly gives us the impression of something so very fragile and therefore precious.

With materials like lace, flounces, satin or silky materials, no need to say that this is a very “girly” trend, or maybe should I say “super feminine” trend, but it’s easy to adapt after personal taste. There’s always a way of getting inspired from trends but only using small details of it, for it to become your personal style. With this trend one could for example use the transparency to create a “layer-on-layer” look, with a see-through top on top of a plain black jersey dress.

Transparency is often seen just like that, on top of something else, and as you know if you are wearing two transparent fabrics on top of one another, the colours will be slightly different and when you are moving, the fabric will give the impression of “flowing” with your movements (that is if you’re not wearing a slim transparent garment of course) Check out the thin materials flowing often in shapes of flounces or just simply having wrinkled parts of the garment a bit so that it stands out more, letting the transparency looking even more light and fragile.

For all of these ideas of precious and romantic fashion, influenced by underwear, there is a strong focus on accessories, such as panty hoses or socks clearly showing under a pair of high heal stiletto, or letting the lace of a hem, showing from underneath a skirt.

There is also a tendency of wearing a sheer transparent fabric around your shoulders or around the neck, often combined with a festive outfit such as a dress with bare shoulders for example… This can of course also be seen with a jacquard inspiration, letting embroidery  or laces clearly show on the see through fabric.

As for myself, if this rather feminine trend of “frou-frou” is too much for you, try to elaborate some of these details into a animalistic style, and you might find it more interesting and especially maybe more adapted to your way of dressing!

And with the colour scale for this trend it’s even more symbolic when it comes to preciousness and fragility. I’m talking about faded pinks, blushing tones of roses, sheer pink, beige and off white.

But if it doesn’t correspond to your choice of colours, change them into something you’ll like, and I’m sure you will see that the result of the style will be completely different! It’s amazing how much colours affects the total look of the garments, and especially how they affect you and the sensation of wearing them!

Well Stina, Surely this should be reserved for the summer months as it is much too cold to go out in such thin clothes, beautiful though they are. I suppose if I were going to a party I could really get into this style, I love those flouncy materials, they feel so cool against the skin.

Of course with such see through materials you have to make sure you have on clean undies. :]

There certainly are opportunities to create some different styles within these looks.

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and look forward to your next post.

Jo how can you say “have on clean undies” !!?
Much too cold to go out in such thin clothes, I agree with that. but I love the style!

    3. carlotta Dec 14

I can recognise Jo style! see-through fabric are so feminine, I love them, I have a great dress, or should I say a nightdress who look very much like the black dress, I think I will transformed it into a fab dress, thanks Stina

I am freezing just to look at it, but it certainly look great

Well Robby, My Mother told me always to wear clean undies in case I get run over. I often thought that it may be safer not to wear clean undies as I would not get hit by a car.

With this fashion, however, every body can immediately be aware of the state of ones undies.

Oh Stina these are such delicious fashions and I would normally have sighed and looked longingly as it was much too young a look, for me to carry off. However, a couple of months ago, I bought that amazing Facialwizard facial rejuvenation program and now I am looking really amazing. Young enough to carry off this beautiful style and I will be checking my wardrobe for ideas to use.

If you want younger looking skin then http://www.bestnonsurgicalfacelift.com/facialwizard-best-natural-face-lift.html is the place to go.

Wow I have just found this site and it looks great. I am just bowled over by these fashions. I have seen on tv the fashion of the 60s when some daring women wore see-through blouses and no bras. How racy was that? I think I would be just too embarrassed to go out like that but mixing this with some more modest things would be a really great way to make a splash this Christmas.

I am intrigued by your link Jo, can this program really work? I have seen so many of these things on the internet but have always thought they were a little suspect.

Well Stina, I will be checking you out again as I am really interested in what is going on in the fashion world of Paris.

      A bien tot I think.

      Janice

Hi Janet, what is Facialwizard ?

    10. Josephine Devizes Dec 15

Facialwizard is a very good facial program ( acupoint massage, exercises, magnet therapy and much more0 , in few days I was able to see the difference. have a look it is really good.

    11. Janice Bates Dec 15

Sorry Stina but I have to reply to this thread. I have gone and bought Facialwizard, Wow it wasn’t as much as I thought it was going to be and it looks really beautiful. The exercises are well explained and seem to be easy to do. That EFT seems a bit spooky but I am going to give it a go. Magnets are also a bit strange, I will have to find out where to get them.

I will let you know how it goes.

      Janice

Hi sorry about the brief reply but I was at work and they don’t really like us surfing the web.

Facialwizard is a collection of different regimes that all work independently and separately so that you can just use one and still get great results. I started just using the facial exercises and it was good so I decided to use them all and the effect was incredible. Really tightening and lifting. When I got the magnets, my skin became so good it almost lit up a dark room LOL

I am so glad I found it as I really hate injections and would not like to undergo painful cosmetic surgery.

Hope this has been of help.

HI AND THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS,

First of all, the idea of writing my trend reports from Paris is only to share with you my point of view when it comes to trends and fashion. This article is absolutely not an attempt to make you wear freezing dresses for New Years Eve! I’m going to Sweden for the holidays, and I was definitely not planning on wearing a 1100% see through dress! I feel like I have to be more clear, the idea is really just to give you some inspiration of certain trends. OF COURSE, the temperature in most contries during winter is far colder than the one inside buildings where the catwalks take place! The idea inspiring you of the pictures I chose,is often about details, OR about a primary shape OR the aspect of the fabric. It’s VERY RARELY about the total-look!!!(The catwalk looks are not always adapted to the every day life outside…)

For the photo of the long black dress for example, what I like about it is the pleats and the upperpart of the blouse, I like the structure of the sleeves and I’m very keen on the length of the dress, having a strict volume, and only beeing transparent on the lower part, promoting the legs. BUT the dress all together, the way it is on the photo, would not be worn by me, it’s too much! But it can inspire me for my personal creation, and give me ideas for the future…

I hope I made the context of my articles more clear, and that you enjoy them in the future,

I wish you all the best of holidays, Merry Christmas!

      Stina

    14. carlabella Dec 16

I am going to Trinidad for Christmas and New Years Eve, so I can wear a dress like that!

    15. Patrizia Dec 16

Caribbean winter holidays! Lucky you, I am entertaining at home and I am going to wear some thing very transparent! Stina I love your article DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING.

    16. Lee Dec 16

Stina more article please. I love the black dress too! and I love your lovely descriptions.

    17. Connie Dec 16

Stina I love you to share your point of view on fashion, it’s very nice and I am sure that we all love your articles.
My idea is that if you go to a very smart party, winter or summer you will wear this sort of dresses, it is not a question of weather.

    18. Fabiola Dec 16

I agree with Connie, that look is for party, and it is very nice !

    19. Josephine Devizes Dec 16

Well Sweden is certainly a lot colder than here in London but then you are nearer to Santa Claus :] Well you would be surprised at what the young girls wear in places like Newcastle and Blackpool in the depths of winter. A see through long dress would be see as overdressed, I just don’t see how they can get away with it.

Of course I know that these are catwalk but then it is possible to wear these styles to parties. A cat walk mode is going to be way beyond the budget of most people but, yes we can take they ideas and adapt them to our own circumstances.

Thank you for your great reports and I really look forward to your take on 2010 and how the fashion is going to look for the next decade.

Hope you have a great Christmas and a serious 2010. Kisses Jo
