MORE COATS… Draping Coats

  • Another thing concerning coats is the “soft, less constructed” coats…as we have seen draping fabrics on dresses and even accessories, here is a light version on coats. Instead on having the collar made the tailor way, here’s an example of a soft, hanging collar, that like a scarf, embraces your neck, and is smoothly protecting the neck from the cold.

This is very funny, because just recently I was sketching on some new ideas for my personal work, and I was thinking of creating a mini collection inspired of the bathrobe (Is there a better garment ever? This is my top favourite, the warm and cosy one, you slip into at home as soon as you get the opportunity…well at least I do…) So anyway, the idea was to create relaxed clothes, all of them with the “wrap around me-ready to go”-feeling to it. And then I see these photos! This is exactly what I was thinking of!

These two coats on the photos are both giving a very elegant look, giving the impression they were wearing something like an evening dress underneath… I’d like to see more soft styles like these on big outdoor-pieces, and even on knitwear, on big jumpers and cardigans. (Which of course already there are plenty of…but with the type of hanging collar to go with!) The white coat without collar is interesting to, reminding us of a subtle style of kimono, but made as a coat.

As I’m sure you have already noticed, MINIMALISME is a big trend, letting a simple cut, colour or volume stand for what it is without having “unnecessary” details, which takes more time to produce, therefore costs more… This being the basic idea from the crisis years of the 30′s, when it was necessary to save and not to spend. That is the situation nowadays to, but I doubt that the coats at big fashion houses would cost little, because there’s a minimalistic trend going on…

Anyway, more about minimalisme later on…

      I love the white coat!

Yes, both coats are very elegant, I love the white too, but …VERY EXPENSIVE IN DRY CLEANING!

Very good idea Stina ! love the bathrobe look, nothing more cosy and elegant if well done.

My grand father add a cashmere and silk robe with cashmere design that I loved. I can imagine revamping the look, very nice!

nothing more sexy ! the wrap around me-ready to go”-feeling is wonderful!
      Go for it Stina

Well Stina, this look can also be used for dresses and blouses, so do it for the summer!

Hi Stina, good to read you. I agree with Janet, the trouble with a big single colour is that it will show the dirt easily. When you are traveling on buses and the tube, coats get dirty really quickly.

It is a shame as I quite like that look but more the feel if it is good material. There is something very snuggly about wrapping that soft warm material around you.

How is Paris ? It is quite horrible here. Everybody on the street just rushes by with their eyes on the ground, not looking at any fashion, just trying to get out of the bad weather. Can’t wait for Spring.
